The PERCAN Project, in association with the Ministry of Energy and Mines presented at the Mining Convention XXVI in Arequipa some of the results and analysis that have been achieved in the Information Technology development, part of the Technical Assistance from the Canadian Government to the Peruvian Government in the mining sector.

The Eng. Oswaldo Tovar, Director of the Mining Development and Promotion Bureau of the General Mining Burea, gave a brief presentation of the Ministry of Energy and Mines vision related to the dissemination and transparency of its information. He used a GoogleEarth tool to show a prototype for dissemination of the spatial information.

Then, the Eng. Jean-Francois Meunier, responsible for the Information Technology area of the PERCAN project made a brief presentation of the systems which have been developed in the Ministry of Energy and Mines for the mining information management. The SIMEM, an Intranet system, allows MEM employees to consult and update the integrated information. An Intranet system designed especially for DREMs allows consulting their information. An Extranet system allows mining companies to fill the forms on line like the Annual Consolidated Declaration (DAC). The added information of all declarations can be consulted by a Datamart through the Web.
