Two canadian experts will participate in then validation of INGEMMET's development plan for a Geocientific Information System, from June 14 to June 18 2004. They will provide guidance in the definition of the global structure of the system, it's basic architecture, the definition of the technologies to be used and the basic functionality.
INGEMMET is developping a Geoscientific Information System permiting the gathering in digital form of all geological information that is held at the Institute, as well as incorporating in a near future information from the mining industry.
The system will provide mechanisms for the diffusion and distribution of documents and maps using Internet technologies, in order that external users such as mining companies, juniors, regional and local governments, organisms of the central government and foreign users such as investments banks and Geological Services could have efficient access to the information.

His relevant experience in the task at hand includes the implementation of a prototype for the SIGEOM to prove the potential of SIGs for mining exploration (1988), the design and development of the SIGEOM geoscientific information system for the Ministry of Energy, Mines and Resources of the Province of Québec (1992), architectures of metedata catalogs for the interchange of georeferenced products (1995-1997), architecture of the system for the distribution of information on mining claims over the Internet (1998) and auditing for the geocientific information system of Columbia.
Mr. Xavier Bohigas also has international experience in geographic information systems, more at the level of planification and management. He has been responsable for the management of a development project of a geological information system for the mining and foreign investment sector of Colombia.
