New PERCAN Project Director

It is with great pleasure that I announce that Ms Anne Slivitzky has been nominated for the position of Canadian Project Director (CPD) of the PERCAN project.

The selection of Ms. Slivitzky is the result of a thorough selection process that involved consultation with the MEM, CIDA and all three consortium members.

Ms. Slivitzky’s profile can be summarized as follows:

  • A track record in successfully planning, managing and implementing various activities where she contributed leadership and negotiation skills and a demonstrated on-going commitment to quality control;
  • An in-depth and hands-on practical understanding of the key issues pertaining to the mining industry from the administration of a mining company to the management of exploration programs;
  • Extensive network of contacts and knowledge of the Canadian mining industry and government;
  • A proven ability to manage and lead teams of experts from various fields of expertise in pursuit of a common goal;
  • Knowledge of key principles applied in development projects and familiarity with CIDA;
  • Demonstrated ability to grasp the larger context facing the mining sector from the perspective of operators, regulators, government entities and communities. A strong blend of administrative, technical and policy experience;
  • Excellent inter-personal relations with all stakeholders from industry to government. She has demonstrated her ability to establish trust and confidence between different groups and build consensus. She brings experience in dealing with stakeholders representing industry, communities, local government, and the media, locally and internationally;
  • Familiarity with the Andes region, its people, their cultures, their needs and the mining and environmental legacy of the region;
  • Strong communication skills including fluency in Spanish;
  • Willingness to work in Peru for extended periods of time;
  • An excellent reputation for her ethics and integrity.

Ms. Slivitzky will begin to work full time on the project on August 30th 2004 and will deploy for a continuous period of six month in Lima during the week of September 13th 2004.

The first two weeks of Ms. Slivitzky's tenure will be dedicated to project familiarization and 'ramping up'.

I want to take this opportunity to extend a warm welcome to Anne and look forward to a successful resumption of the PERCAN project.

Warmest regards,
