On May 19th 2005, the PERCAN Project specialist on Conflict Management, Myriam Cabrera, presented a conference at the Dialogue, Mining and Sustainable Development Group where she talked about “Dialogue and Governability”.

The purpose of this conference was to encourage the audience, that represented several stakeholders involved in the mining sector such as local governments, companies, non-governmental organizations, civil society representatives, and the Defensoria del Pueblo, to begin a reflection process about the concepts of “dialogue” and “governability” and the connection between both, like preferential mechanisms for social conflict management.

 The presentation was followed by the comments of three panelists: Richard Stoddart, Consultant, Augusto Baertl, Executive President of Gestora de Inversiones y Negocios; and Manuel Pulgar Vidal, Executive Director of Sociedad Peruana de Derecho Ambiental, and it was also complemented by the participation of the audience that permitted to enhance the basic concepts presented at Myriam Cabrera’s conference.
