Information Technology
Information technology is a valuable tool to allow a more efficient and effective management of the mining sector at both the national and regional levels. The Ministry of Energy and Mines of Peru’s objective is, with PERCAN, to develop a valuable and sustainable computing infrastructure accessible to the regions, permitting access and transparency of information and allowing efficient monitoring of the sector, training of personnel and simplified administrative processes. The first step in achieving this objective is to develop an appropriate computing infrastructure to allow the integration of mining sector information. With the appropriate infrastructure, integrated and efficient management procedures and instruments can be developed. The sectoral information can then be disseminated through an easily accessible web interface that provide relevant, timely and transparent information to all stakeholders at the local, regional, national and international levels.
Furthermore, information technology is a mean by which tools and procedures developed in the other areas of the project (environmental management, social management and regionalization) can be institutionalized and sustainable.
